Pupil Leadership Opportunities

There are a number of ways in which we encourage children to step into formal leadership opportunities at Quest Primary. These opportunities are available to all children in an inclusive environment, irrespective of age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation. Alongside these formal roles, there are daily opportunities for children to develop their leadership skills, for example captaining teams in PE, leading their table during a task in lessons, leading their class sensibly in line, resolving conflict between peers and collecting team points etc.

We aim for the formal leadership positions to be fulfilled by pupils who demonstrate potential to display a set of positive personal traits, dispositions and virtues that informs their motivation to have a positive impact on the school community, using the responsibility their role affords them carefully so that they behave with integrity and cooperate consistently well with others. Appointment to these positions varies in process but centres on all children feeling included, and having aspiration for what they can achieve. Children are also able to revisit the British Value of democracy, often in the appointment process through manifestos, elections and votes, but also in understanding their voice will be representing the views of their peers and of Quest Primary School in the wider community. Children can see the difference they have made to the school, have opportunities to work together as a team and develop skills and qualities which they will need to flourish in our society, beyond their time at Quest Primary, and into adult life.

Pupil Parliament Members

Our Pupil Parliament Members are elected each year and can represent the school on one of three committees. These are:

  • Eco Committee
  • Community Committee
  • Wellbeing Committee

The committees meet regularly throughout the year and work on their priority actions from their plans, updating the school community through assemblies, newsletters and social media.

Anti-Bullying Ambassadors

Our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors are trained through The Diana Award programme. This equips them to understand different types of bullying behaviours, identify bullying behaviour, the importance of being an Upstander and how to intervene safely, and how to support a peer who may be experiencing bullying behaviour. Children work towards keeping the school community informed of their work and a happy place to be.

Reading Ambassadors

Our Reading Ambassadors are chosen for their sustained and enthusiastic attitudes to reading for pleasure, and for their ability to motivate and enthuse others across the school. They support with reading initiatives across the school, including working with individual pupils, classes and parents. Children take regular part in our RfP assemblies and help support with the selection of new books in the school.

Pupil Principals

At the end of Year 5, in readiness for Year 6, pupils have the opportunity to apply for the role of Pupil Principal in their final year. This is a prestigious role designed to recognise and empower exceptional pupil leaders as they move into Year 6.

Pupil Principals represent the voice of the pupils, help shape school initiatives, and model exemplary behaviour and leadership throughout the year. They embody our school values of Excellence, Responsibility, and Aspiration and should also consistently demonstrate the following qualities:

  • A positive and respectful attitude towards others
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Reliability and maturity
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving
  • Teamwork and collaboration
  • Confidence in representing the school
  • A willingness to go above and beyond in school life

Appointment of our Pupil Principals is a formal process and involves:

  • Writing a formal letter of application, detailing why they would like to become a Pupil Principal and what they believe they would bring to the role.
  • Attending an interview with the Principal and KS2 Assistant Principal, to discuss their ideas and personal qualities.#
  • Appointment to the role of Pupil Principal during Celebration assembly.

Throughout the year our Pupil Principals will work alongside the Principal to:

  • help shape the direction of new initiatives by representing the voice of the pupil body;
  • represent the school to prospective parents at open day events and during school tours;
  • take a lead on representing the school during workshops and other events;
  • meet with visitors and share their experience of being pupils at Quest Primary School.
